Wall Street Journal Feature: Hyphen App Founders Portraits | SF Photographer
Wish you could change some things in the office, but fear criticism from your boss? Well, now there is an app that allows you to post anonymously your opinions about the workplace. The app is called Hyphen.
The Wall Street Journal has an excellent article on the new app and the pros and cons of using a service like Hyphen. The article also features one of my images, which is always nice. :)
Beside the product shot, I took some portraits of the co-founders, Arnaud Grunwald and Ranjit Jose, in San Francisco. They were a pleasure to work with!
San Francisco's tech ecosystem generates more interesting portrait subjects per square mile than almost anywhere else in the world. Hyphen — a workplace app built around anonymous employee feedback — and its founders Arnaud Grunwald and Ranjit Jose were a good example of that.
Photographing the Founders of Hyphen
Hyphen is an app designed to let employees share opinions about their workplace anonymously — a concept that sits at the intersection of HR technology and organizational psychology. I photographed co-founders Arnaud Grunwald and Ranjit Jose in San Francisco for a portrait session that included both product photography and executive portraits.
From Portrait to The Wall Street Journal
The Wall Street Journal featured Hyphen in their Digits column, covering startups in the HR space and the question of whether anonymous feedback tools help or complicate workplace culture. One of my images appeared in the piece — a reminder that portrait photography at this level isn't just about the subject; it's about creating an image that a major publication chooses to run.
Shooting Tech Founders in San Francisco
Founder portraits are a specific genre within commercial photography. The best ones don't look like headshots — they have a point of view, a sense of who this person is beyond their title. For a startup founder, that often means finding the moment between formal and informal, between CEO and human being.
Commercial and Editorial Portrait Photography for Publications
I photograph executives, founders, and creative professionals throughout the Bay Area for editorial and commercial use. Whether the final destination is a national publication, a brand website, or an annual report, the approach is the same: make an image that holds.
I’m happy to add these portraits to my portfolio.
