Studio Portrait with Dan Castro — Brooklyn, NYC

Two Photographers, One Set

There is something genuinely disorienting — in the best possible way — about being the subject rather than the photographer. Marc Olivier Le Blanc has spent years behind the lens directing energy on set, reading light, and coaxing people into their most authentic version of themselves. This studio session in Brooklyn was different: he was the one being directed.

The shoot was a collaboration with Daniel Castro, Emmy Award-winning director and founder of Sky Pie Studio — a Brooklyn-based creative studio producing whimsical mixed-media content that blends live action, stop motion, and animation for screens big and small. Dan is a longtime friend and a deeply skilled visual collaborator, and working with someone who thinks architecturally about an image made the dynamic immediately productive.

Dan Castro and Sky Pie Studio

Sky Pie Studio, led by Dan Castro, builds hyper-stylized branded content with wit and design intelligence. The studio has produced work for major networks and brands, and the sensibility Dan brings to a portrait session reflects that: deliberate framing, clear visual intention, no wasted decisions. The setup was controlled — studio lighting, a neutral backdrop, a mood calibrated toward something with weight to it. Both of them knew going in that they wanted a portrait rather than a headshot.
