Prudential Corporate Portraits — San Francisco Photographer
Prudential and the Challenge of a Different Style
Prudential is one of the world's largest financial services companies — 139 years old, operating in 41 countries, managing the financial futures of millions of individual and institutional clients. It is, by any measure, a serious institution. The portrait session Marc Olivier Le Blanc shot for them in San Francisco leaned in a deliberately different direction: colorful, high-energy, and visually playful.
Marc's usual aesthetic tends toward clean editorial portraits — controlled light, restrained palettes, a visual quietness that puts the subject at the center. The Prudential session asked for something else: bolder color, more dynamic framing, and an approachability that would work across internal communications and brand materials. The creative constraint was welcome. Working against your defaults is one of the more useful exercises a photographer can have — it sharpens your understanding of why the defaults exist, and occasionally produces something you wouldn't have reached otherwise.
What Makes a Corporate Portrait Session Work
The best corporate portraits are still portraits: specific, humanizing, and visually considered. The difference between a headshot and an editorial portrait is usually just intention — both can be excellent if the photographer brings the same level of care to reading the subject and controlling the light. For the Prudential session, that meant adapting the approach to the brief while keeping the fundamentals of good portrait work in place.
