Portrait of Matt Rogers, Co-Founder of Nest Labs — SF Editorial Photographer
. Matt Rogers and the Nest Learning Thermostat
Matt Rogers co-founded Nest Labs with Tony Fadell and led engineering on the Nest Learning Thermostat — a product that redefined what a home device could be. Where thermostats had always been purely functional, Nest made them objects people actually wanted to own.
The company was later acquired by Google for $3.2 billion. It's one of the defining hardware exits of the Bay Area startup era.
. Photographing Silicon Valley's Builders
I've photographed a number of Bay Area founders and tech leaders over the years — people building products that, in some cases, become part of everyday life. What makes this work interesting is that the best subjects bring the same thoughtfulness to a photo session that they bring to product design: they're present, considered, and easy to direct.
Matt was an excellent subject. The session was relaxed and the resulting portraits are clean and direct.
. Editorial Portrait Photography for Tech Founders
San Francisco and Silicon Valley are full of founders doing interesting work. My editorial portrait practice is built around capturing them with the kind of depth and visual authority that a magazine profile or brand campaign demands.
