Photoshoot with GQ China and Bay Area Tech Leaders
In August, I had the opportunity to work with GQ China on an article featuring some of the up-in-coming tech giants of the Bay Area. This included Cal Henderson (CTO at Slack), Michael Temkin (CEO of Rabbit), and Rick Levin (CEO of Coursera). We began our editorial photography in the middle of San Francisco at the headquarters of Slack. We needed a portrait of Cal Henderson. Slack was launched in August of 2013 and since then has grown to become a multi-billion dollar company. What does the company offer? A great service to keep your teammates productive and organized by being able to organize and filter all communication by subject, project, or time. Their office was AMAZING. We ended up shooting in their library. The next day we started in Redwood City with a quick portrait of Michael Temkin from Rabbit. Have you ever tried to watch a movie with a friend over the phone or online? It can be annoying trying to start at the exactly same time. With the help of Rabbit, you can launch a window that allows you and your guests to watch stuff easily online (like Netflix and Hulu) together. We had fun and had Michael take some photos with pink bunny ears which ended up being our favorite shots! The last photo shoot was with CEO of Coursera, Rick Levin. Coursera is a great resource for students lifelong learners. You can access hundreds of free online courses from top universities. The company had a really cool and unique hallway that was just perfect for his portrait. When you enter the hallway, you notice that there is painting on the walls, but it doesn’t make sense. Its only when you exit the hallway and step back do you realize that the walls united spell out “Advance Pedagogy.” Pretty neat.It was an honor to work with GQ China and to meet these wonderful and influential tech leaders. Also, big thanks to my photo assistant, Zachariah Epperson for helping me on these shoots!I can’t wait to add these portraits to my portfolio.
