Coastal Lifestyle Portrait Shoot in Pacifica, California | SF Photographer

Shooting along the coast along Highway 1 in Pacifica is one of my favorites. Our beach shoot started off early in the morning with ideal overcast weather. I captured some images in the hight of the high tide on the coast in Pacifica, California. Thanks to an awesome crew @fboulaire & @zachographie and everyones’ eye for creative details the shoot was a lot of fun and we got these images! While on location, we had the pleasure to encounter an old school surf board maker working from his workshop along the beach. We tried to get his portrait too but he was a little shy, humble, or just didn't like my camera :-)

Highway 1 through Pacifica is one of the most visually compelling stretches of the California coast — rugged cliffs, constant wind, and a quality of diffused morning light that's hard to replicate anywhere else. It's been one of my favorite locations for lifestyle and fashion shoots for years.

Shooting Along Highway 1 at High Tide

This shoot was timed to coincide with high tide, which pushed the water close to the cliffs and gave us dramatic foregrounds to work with. Timing a coastal shoot around tide charts is something I always factor in — the visual difference between low and high tide can transform a location completely.

Early Morning Light and Overcast Weather

We started early, which gave us ideal overcast conditions — soft, even light that's flattering for portraiture without harsh shadows. The Bay Area fog and marine layer are often seen as inconveniences, but for photography they're assets. This shoot benefited from that classic Northern California coastal atmosphere.

The Unexpected Encounter: A Surfboard Maker

On location, we had the unexpected pleasure of coming across a surfboard maker working out of a small workshop right on the beach — a reminder that Pacifica has its own quiet creative culture. We tried to get his portrait too, but he preferred to stay behind the scenes. Some subjects are just naturally shy in front of a camera.

Lifestyle and Fashion Photography on the Bay Area Coast

This shoot combined fashion editorial styling with the authenticity of a real location. The crew — producer François Boulaire and photographer Zachographie — brought the creative energy that makes shoots like this rewarding. These images have since been used in promotional materials and added to the portfolio.
