Portrait Photographer - Mark & Debra Graham, Québec
Debra and Mark Graham - Two Remarkable People
Debra is an accordion and harpsichord player, and a professor of women's and gender studies at Carleton University in Ottawa. Mark is a fly fishing maestro - in his workshop he makes his own fishing poles and flies by hand. He is also a Vice President of research and collections at the Canadian Museum of Nature.
This portrait session was shot in Québec. As a portrait photographer and professional photographer based in San Francisco, Marc Olivier Le Blanc takes travel portrait commissions regularly - and sessions in Québec offer something the Bay Area doesn't: a visual environment built on different proportions, different light, and a very different relationship between craft and identity.
Behind the Scenes - A Light Built from a Foil Umbrella
One extra fun part of that shoot was that Marc had to build a light with an umbrella, foil and a CFL bulb. The BTS image from this session makes the argument that the finished portrait doesn't need to: that the quality of a portrait is the product of intentional decisions, not happy accidents.
