On-Location Magazine Shoot at Firebrand Artisan Bakery, Oakland
. Shooting Before the City Wakes Up
Long before sunrise we drove to Oakland for an on-location shoot at Firebrand Artisan Breads. We were greeted at the door by the smell of fresh-baked bread, warm ovens, and two people who clearly love what they do.
Shooting at dawn on-location is one of my favorite conditions — the light is still soft, the space is alive with activity, and you get access to real moments that a controlled studio environment can't replicate.
. Meet the Makers — Matt and Colleen
Bread maker Matt and pastry chef Colleen are the kind of subjects who make a photographer's job easy. Their passion for craft is visible without prompting — you just have to find the right angle and wait for it.
Matt's story is worth reading in full on the Firebrand website: the journey from dream to brick oven is a good one. Producer Lisa and the rest of the crew made the shoot run smoothly, which gave me the freedom to focus on capturing real portraits rather than managing logistics.
. Magazine Portrait Photography in the Bay Area
I work with food brands, restaurants, artisan producers, and startups throughout San Francisco and the broader Bay Area. On-location magazine shoots like this one are about telling the story of a place and the people behind it — giving a brand something more honest than a posed headshot.
If you're a Bay Area food brand or business looking for a commercial photographer, I'd love to discuss what we could create together.
