Sam Yam and Jack Conte, Creators of Patreon
With the help of Stanford Magazine, I got to meet Sam Yam and Jack Conte, creators of Patreon.
Crowdfunding sites, such as, Kickstarter and Indiegogo, have helped artists get funding for particular projects, but it did not support the artists on a more consistent basis.
Patreon is similar to Kickstarter, but instead asks fans to subscribe to artists’ work. Fans can pledge any amount to help keep their favorite artists producing.
Conte states, “Advertisers don’t care that much about a superfan. Every fan is worth exactly the same, .0002 cents, even if the superfan has watched every video and been to every show, which is ridiculous”.
If you would like to learn more about Patreon and Yam and Conte, check out this terrific article by Stanford Magazine. Photos by me :-)
